Taking a photo a day is a big undertaking with big payoffs. Here are just a few reasons why I am going to do it: Imagine being able to look back at any day of your year and recall what you did, who you met, what you learned… (Often we find it hard to remember what we did just yesterday or even last night, let alone a whole year ago!) Your year-long photo album will be an amazing way to document your travels and accomplishments, your haircuts and relationships. Time moves surprisingly fast. Taking a photo a day will make you a better photographer. Using your camera every day will help you learn its limits. You will get better at composing your shots, you’ll start to care about lighting, and you’ll become more creative with your photography when you’re forced to come up with something new every single day.

Here's one of the keeper shots from a shoot with the lovely Trishna. Shot on 107" white paper with 4 lights. (2) on the background for around f/9 or so to keep things even. A fill light low left camera with a 60" umbrella, key light boomed high through a 22" socked beauty dish. Canon 7D Canon 24-70L, 70mm @ around f/5.6 ISO 100, shutter speed 200

Another shot of some foliage in my back yard. Pretty much the same details as the other plant but this time in focus. Always impressed with the 24-70's near macro focusing abilities. Canon 7D ND4 filter Canon 24-70L, 70mm Aperture f/2.8, ISO 100, fast shutter

Here's an odd out of focus / blur shot that I thought was kinda cool due to the really vibrant colors of this tree in my backyard. I shot this midday with a ND4 filter so that I could get the shot at f/2.8. Canon 7D Canon 24-70L Aperture f/2.8, ISO 100, pretty quick shutter |

While not a captured picture at all, it is a picture of sorts that was created. So what, I'm cheating and using my own rules for a "picture of the day". While thinking about a logo for Riffster Productions I ran through a variety of designs and this one was one of many, with a sci-fi, neon vibe. The sky is the limit. |

Just setting up the studio before a band recording gig. Took out the house drum kit and getting the space ready for the band's drum set to arrive. Good thing I skipped working out today as I really did need to iron out some studio operational issues. Shot with a Canon 7D and a Sigma 30 f/1.4 @1.4 ISO around 800-1600. Side note, every since I bought this lens I have never been able to get consistent focus and have demoted the majority of its chores to video purposes. Bummer, 'cause everyone seems to rave about this lens.

Some kind of stir fry that my wife made. Thought I'd take a snap of it right before she turned the burner off. Tasty with a little hot kick to it. Canon 7D Canon 24-70L @ f/4.5 ISO 3200

Here's a before and after shot of the lovely Brandi. I was trying for that sexy, cool big foot in the face type shot which I think I got but my lighting wasn't optimal and I had to do a lot of post stuff to fix the background. So anyway, I am anxious to try this type of shot again but with better light and a nice wide angle lens. Need bigger paper! This was shot with my Canon 7D + Sigma 18-50 EX, ISO 100, under 1/250 sec @ around f8. 3 or 4 lights going on with a beauty dish up the middle. |

Covering a local live band I snagged a few shots in a pretty low light club. Whipped out the Canon 24-70L to see if I could pull it off at f/2.8, nope. not for still shots. So I ended up grabbing up the Canon 85 f/1.8, what a great inexpensive, fast lens. On a cropped 7D it's long sure, but it this case it worked out rather nicely at some 135mm's worth of throw. ISO 1600 85mm f/1.8 1/160 sec. |

Just a random shot here of my wife's glasses. The light looked kinda nice coming in through the window bouncing off the kitchen countertop. Pretty dark lighting overall with use of high ISO. Canon 7D with Canon 24-70L. ISO 1250 58mm, f/2.8 1/100 sec

Here's a quick screen grab from a show I did the other night from the manned camera B on the mezzanine. I'm on stage shooting video with the Canon 7D + 24-70L. I was initially worried about not having enough light with the max f/2.8 aperture on the 24-70L but when the lights came up I soon realized that I wouldn't be needing my Sigma 30 f/1.4. Needless to say with this camera + 2.1 lbs lens + support, I was sore after 3 hours. Good thing I am strong like bull! |

Here's a shot of Brandi obviously not so quicky-optimized-and-uploaded. Quite a bit of everything going on in this one. It's funny how after a long time of editing a picture it's much like mastering songs; you have to step away from the project after a while 'cause your reference has been so completely saturated from prolonged exposure. Exif data has been long gone.

Today was a very warm day in Northeast Ohio with temps around 55 degrees. Normally in late January we are up to our cajones in snow and in the single digits. While out to take the office mail to the mail box, I grabbed up my 7D with the new 24-70L attached and tried a shot of the puffy clouds to access the lens's rendition of blues. Not too shabby. I'm already starting to feel comfortable with the lens's zoom & focus ring. Every Canon owner should own or be working towards getting one of these bad boys. This is one sexy mofo. (missed the exif info) |

Ah the long awaited moment has arrived - finally scratched up the funds for a really nice lens, the Canon 24-70L f/2.8. You know the drill, waiting & bugging the secretary if she's seen or heard Kevin the UPS driver around knowing that he has quite the goody for you. This lens will do so much for me in the ways of practical money making use for both photography & videography as well as blatant bragging rights. I'll get some shots of the lens itself in a little bit. This fat puppy is the bomb. Canon 7D ISO 320 24mm, f/3.2 1/125 sec |

Well I must say that I have gotten off to a really bad start here with this project. I kinda get all caught up with the editing process rather than just getting the pictures taken. Will re-access the process.
